So what’s all this about social media and face to face networking?
Well for me its not about online its about face to face meetings and how they are impacted by what happens online first. But just think if you didn’t get your personal brand right in the first place it would all be a waste of time, imagine if you used the wrong words for the people who you really wanted to speak to.
Back in the old days attending face to face networking meetings and grabbing as many numbers and business cards as possible was what everyone did, including me until I read the networking survival guide by Richard White.
In his book he talks about badge spotters and how annoying they are as they seem to ignore you and try to sell to everyone in the room missing the entire point of networking. Its about meeting new people and building relationships for future joint partnerships or friendships and to build referrals.
I so resonate with what he says in his book and took some great advice from him when he was my soft selling sales coach. Like me he wants to rid the world of pushy salesman!
People online aren’t really that much different from the real world, except they perhaps are not really aware that online meetings need to become face to face meetings, even if this meeting is a webinar or something like that it still gives them all the information that they need to understand if they want to do business with you.
Please remember that someone you meet online could introduce you to your next big client, investor or partner. Not only this but a lot of your conversations are usually public so anyone can see how you behave so please leave your ego out of the equation and you will begin to bring in the results that mere mortals dream of.
Once you get asked to go out on dates by members of the opposite sex you know that you are getting it right, the more frequent this happens the better you are at getting your content right and your personal brand. Sometimes all it takes is a little tweak here and there and you won’t believe the job offers and other exciting partnerships that can happen.
