What Does Success Look Like To You?

What does success look like to you?

Crucial to building your personal brand!

Yesterday I wrote about taking responsibility for your career and your life. Today logically it is about success and what it looks like to you.

How do you define your success?

Is it the money you have in the bank?

Is it your take home wage?

Is it by the cost of the clothes you wear?

Is it the car you drive?

Is it the lives you’ve impacted?

Many successful people I speak to, have been through many different stages of success, buying lots of toys and wasting lots of their capital.

I was speaking to someone the other week, he gets more pleasure from buying second hand cars, motorbikes and boats than he ever did buying brand new vehicles.

Remembering a couple of years ago he invited me to his yacht, he told me he would sort out dinner and he went to Tesco to buy some ready meals, we got back and as I was hungry, I ate my meal, he said if you are hungry you can eat half of mine as I am on a diet, success to him involves being able to buy boats and fly in air races; for me success involves being able to eat good foods!

He likes to lose as little capital as possible from any vehicle he buys and this gives him massive satisfaction.

So whatever success means to you, it doesn’t matter, the main thing is that you are moving forwards and you were better than you were yesterday. Before you begin building your personal brand having an idea of what success looks like is key.

Be honest with yourself and get on with it!

Taking the time to be honest with yourself is crucial! Whatever you enjoy doing or are planning to enjoy doing for work in the future; has to be a large part of what you are doing to make money.

I am not saying everything that you do at work you have to love, this would be impractical and something that in today’s day and age is usually not going to happen.

Generally the biggest breakthroughs we have are on the other side of fear, so embrace that speaking gig, embrace that new business opportunity, embrace that new job and get on with it, to start with you will be scared yes, it is only natural! The biggest breakthroughs are on the other side of the fear that stops most people from taking action.

If you want to have the choice of what to do with your career and your life you have to do things that you have never done before, embrace the things that you are scared of, take every opportunity if it scares you and excites you at the same time it is generally something to try.

Here is a really cool motivational video that includes 10 inspiring people from the last few decades, appreciating that it is not probably motivation that is stopping you but probably fear or a lack of self belief.
